Languages: I’m Turi Māori (Māori Deaf) use New Zealand Sign Language as a primary language, and second language English, also Basic Te Reo Māori. I use the NZSL interpreter for general requirements to communicate with each other.
Rāhera (Rachel) is a dedicated producer at Equal Voices Arts and a skilled NZSL consultant. Since joining the company in 2016, she has played a crucial role in making the arts accessible to Deaf audiences in Aotearoa New Zealand and beyond. Rāhera's notable work includes her involvement in 'Salonica', which featured a unique Deaf/hearing creative team and toured internationally, including the UK, Serbia, and Montenegro. Her expertise in NZSL and attention to detail ensure that language options on stage are authentic and inclusive. Rāhera is committed to enhancing the visibility of signed languages and supporting Deaf performers and audiences.
Beyond her role at Equal Voices Arts, she is a qualified NZSL tutor and advocates for Deaf students in educational settings. Rāhera also has a strong interest in Te Ao Māori, working to connect with Tangata Turi Māori and promote cultural inclusion.
